LIGHTNING PROTECTION SYSTEMS

lightning scar on trunkIf you have every seen the damage or destruction that lightning can do to a tree, you know the threat is real. Just as people protect their homes with lightning protection systems, you can also protect signature trees or historic trees on your property from the devastating effects of a lightning strike. Don’t wait until it’s too late. While there’s not much that can be done after a strike, lightning protection can greatly reduce the chances of losing that beloved tree on your property during an electrical storm.

As with our other services, lightning protection installation has it's own set of ANSI standards that we comply with to make sure the systems we install will be safe and effective. lightning protection system diagram

The system consists of copper or aluminum conductor wires that run from the top of the tree (and sometimes from major lateral branches) into the soil and end at ground rods driven deep into the ground.  A tree lightning protection systems works the same on a tree as it does on a building.  It doesn't prevent a lightning strike, but instead intercepts the lightning strike between the cloud and the earth and harmlessly conducts the electrical charge to the ground, preventing damage to your tree.
